Most backyards have more potential than they're using. A flat patch of grass behind the house doesn't give you anywhere to actually sit, gather, or just step outside and breathe. That's exactly the kind of problem a well-built deck solves - and it's one of the most practical exterior renovations you can add to a home.

Here's what we were working with on this one. The homeowner wanted a large, open deck that could handle real use - family cookouts, outdoor furniture, everyday foot traffic - without looking like it would need constant maintenance. So we went with composite decking in a charcoal gray tone paired with black aluminum railings. Clean, modern, and built to hold up.

The railing system is one of those details that makes a real difference. Aluminum doesn't rust, doesn't peel, and doesn't need to be repainted every few years like wood would. The vertical balusters run consistent and tight all the way around, and the posts are set solid at the corners. It's the kind of thing that looks simple but takes real attention to get right.

The stair layout was also a big part of this job. Wide, gradual steps on both sides of the deck make it easy to move in and out of the yard from multiple angles - which matters more than people realize once you're actually using the space. No awkward single-staircase bottleneck. Just a deck that works the way a backyard should.

Good exterior work isn't just about looks. It's about adding real, lasting value to your home with craftsmanship that holds up over time. That's what we focus on with every deck build we take on.
