Here's what we were working with - an old wooden deck that had completely run its course. Rotted boards, deteriorating framing, the whole thing had to go. There was no patching this one. A full tear-out was the only right call.

Once the old decking was stripped down to the bones, we could see just how far the damage had gone. That's the thing about aging wood decks - what looks like surface wear is usually hiding something much worse underneath. Starting clean gave us a solid foundation to build something that would actually last.

We went with composite decking for the new build. No warping, no splintering, no annual sealing. The clean gray tones pair well with the brick exterior, and the white railing posts with black aluminum balusters give it a sharp, finished look that holds up over time.

The end result is a wide, flat deck surface with a full step down to the patio - functional, sturdy, and easy to maintain. Plenty of room to grill, pull up some chairs, and actually use the backyard again. That's the whole point.

A deck replacement like this isn't just cosmetic. It's about having a space you can trust under your feet. We take the structural side just as seriously as the finish work, and that's what separates a deck that lasts from one that ends up in a pile like the one we hauled away.
