Snow Plowing, Removal & Salting
Berg Custom Builds plows driveways and parking lots, clears walks and steps, and salts for ice across Mint Hill, Matthews and east Charlotte, NC, on seasonal contracts or per storm.
Plowed, shoveled and salted before you're out the door.
What it is
Charlotte doesn't get much snow. It gets ice. A couple of inches on a cold night turns into a sheet of glaze by morning, and most of the area has no plan for it. We do. Our trucks run a set route of contract customers first, plow to bare pavement, clear the walks by hand, and salt everything we cleared so it stays clear when the temperature drops again.

What's included
- Driveway and parking lot plowing to bare pavement
- Walkways, porch steps and entrances cleared by hand
- Rock salt or pet-safe ice melt on everything we clear
- Pre-treatment before forecast ice storms
- Return visits for refreeze and drifting
- Edges staked before the season so lawns and curbs stay intact

01
Driveway and lot plowing
A plow truck clears a long driveway in minutes, not an hour of shoveling. We plow in one direction, back-drag snow away from garage doors, and stack it where it won't melt back across the pavement or bury your mailbox.
- Residential driveways, any length
- Small commercial lots, churches, HOAs
- Back-dragging at garage doors
- Snow stacked away from drains and entries

02
Walkways, steps and entrances
Plows can't reach the front walk, the porch steps or the path to the side door. Our crew clears them by hand down to the concrete, so the route from the car to the door is safe before anyone walks it.
- Front walks and porch steps
- Side and back door paths
- Storefront sidewalks and ramps
- Hand-cleared to bare concrete

03
Salting and ice control
Ice is the real hazard around Charlotte. We salt everything we plow and shovel, pre-treat before forecast ice storms, and come back when meltwater refreezes overnight. Pet-safe and concrete-safe ice melt is available on request.
- Tailgate spreader on drives and lots
- Hand spreading on walks and steps
- Pre-treatment ahead of ice storms
- Pet-safe ice melt option
How a storm goes
From the forecast to a clear driveway
The same sequence every storm, so you know what happens and when.
- 01
Sign up before the storm
Pick a seasonal contract or per-storm service. We walk the property and stake the edges once.
- 02
We watch the forecast
When ice is in the forecast, contract properties get pre-treated the day before.
- 03
We plow at the trigger depth
Once snow reaches 2 inches, the trucks roll. Contract customers are first on the route.
- 04
We clear the walks
The crew shovels walks, steps and entrances down to the concrete.
- 05
We salt everything we cleared
Drives, lots and walks get salted so they stay clear as the temperature drops.
- 06
We come back if it refreezes
Overnight refreeze and drifting get a return visit. You don't have to call.

Bare pavement by sunrise. Salted so it stays that way.

Every property is priced after a free walkthrough. Driveway length, slope, lot size and how much hand work there is all change the number, so we quote the property, not a guess.

FAQ
Snow and ice: common questions
Straight answers on timing, damage, salt and refreeze.
When do you come out to plow?
Once snow reaches 2 inches on the ground. Contract customers are first on the route, then per-storm customers in route order. When ice is forecast, contract properties are pre-treated the day before.
Will the plow damage my lawn, curb or mailbox?
We walk every property before the season and stake the driveway edges, so the driver can see where pavement ends under the snow. Snow is stacked away from mailboxes, drains and garage doors.
Is salt safe for my concrete and my pets?
Rock salt is what we use by default because it works fastest. If you have new concrete, pets or plantings close to the drive, ask for pet-safe ice melt. It costs a little more and is gentler on paws and pavement.
What happens if it refreezes overnight?
Refreeze is the most common problem in the Charlotte area. Contract customers get a return visit to re-salt without having to call. Per-storm customers can request one.
Do I need a contract, or can I call when it snows?
Either works. A seasonal contract puts you first on the route at one price for the winter. Per-storm service has no commitment, but get on the list before the storm so you're on the route when it hits.
Do you handle commercial properties?
Yes. Small commercial lots, churches, offices and HOA common areas. Lots are plowed and entrances salted before opening hours.
